Dog-Friendly Fall Adventures on North Side of Cascade Highway!

Dog-Friendly Fall Adventures on North Side of Cascade Highway!

As the crisp fall air settles in and the leaves begin to change, it’s the perfect time to grab your pup and head out for some seasonal adventures on the north side of the Cascade Highway! With vibrant trails, golden foliage, and plenty of fresh air, these dog-friendly spots make fall feel extra magical. Just be aware that some areas are off-limits to our furry friends, so we’ve gathered all the must-know details to ensure your trip is smooth and full of wagging tails!

Dog-Friendly Fall Areas

1. Tumalo State Park

Fall at Tumalo State Park is nothing short of breathtaking. The cool breeze and vibrant autumn leaves create the perfect backdrop for a long walk with your dog. The park’s trails wind through beautiful meadows and along the river, making it a top spot for pups who love to explore. Tumalo is a go-to for off-leash fun, as long as your dog stays under control and friendly with other park visitors. You’ll both love the peaceful atmosphere this time of year!

2. Deschutes National Forest (Certain Areas)

If you’re looking for some real adventure, Deschutes National Forest is the place to be. While certain parts of the forest are restricted to protect wildlife, many of the trails are open to dogs, offering stunning views of towering pines and rugged mountain landscapes. A hike through Deschutes in the fall feels like stepping into a postcard, and your dog will love bounding along the paths, surrounded by all the smells of nature. Just keep an eye on signs for any trail restrictions!

3. Shevlin Park

Another fantastic spot for fall fun is Shevlin Park, where dogs are welcome on-leash. The park’s picturesque trails, lined with golden aspen trees, are a joy to explore during autumn. Whether you’re walking along the Tumalo Creek or wandering the quieter paths, Shevlin offers the perfect mix of tranquility and adventure for you and your four-legged friend. The changing leaves and peaceful atmosphere make it a true escape into nature.

Areas Where Dogs Are Not Allowed (North of Cascade Highway)

1. Northwest Forest Pass Areas (Certain Sections)

Certain parts of the wilderness that require a Northwest Forest Pass are closed to dogs in the fall and winter. These spots are carefully managed to protect wildlife as they prepare for colder months, so always check ahead before bringing your pet along.

2. Three Sisters Wilderness (Some Zones)

As you get into the higher elevations of the Three Sisters Wilderness, some zones prohibit dogs, particularly where sensitive habitats and winter wildlife populations thrive. It’s a good idea to stick to designated dog-friendly areas to keep the wilderness safe and enjoyable for all.

After a day of exploring the beautiful fall trails, you and your dog deserve a cozy retreat!
